The future of alloy wheels?

The future of alloy wheels?

HAPPY APRIL FOOLS' DAY :)

The team at Carnoisseur were recently given exclusive access to the research and development department of one of the UK’s largest wheel manufacturers. To our surprise, the biggest project they are currently investing in is the design and testing of square alloy wheels.

They believe that new square alloy wheels could dramatically cut manufacturing costs, whilst also enhancing performance through improved aerodynamics and weight savings.

Square wheels will of course require specialist tyres; but we are told that the wheels are being developed in conjunction with some of the world’s leading tyre manufacturers, and that they are confident they can provide a suitable product to compliment this radical design.

We have also been informed that motorsport is keeping a close eye on developments with teams from Formula 1 and the World Rally Championship interested in how new square alloys could give them the cutting edge.

This could just be the beginning of changes in 21st century alloy wheel design: It is understood that in addition to square alloy wheels, other shapes such as triangles and hexagons are also been considered.

Traditionalists will no doubt be sceptical, but at Carnoisseur we are willing to keep an open mind and we look forward to offering them to our customers when the finished products become available. In the meantime, if you would like to view our range of circular alloy wheels please click here.
