These are brand new FIA approved harnesses with 2024 homologation, and are labelled accordingly.
A 6 point FIA approved 8854/98 harness from TRS, specifically designed for Caterhams. With shorter shoulder straps, these are ideal for racing in your Caterham 7.
As standard they feature shoulder straps sewn to the correct length, to avoid unnecessary adjusters and fabric in a tight cockpit, and lap straps which adjust by pulling down to tighten.
These Caterham specific harnesses have shoulder straps which measure 50cm from the adjuster to the fixing point.
TRS's light weight 140 gram quick release buckle is of composite construction and is attached to the crutch strap on 5 and 6 point harnesses. Innovative features such as a securing tab for intercom cables on the shoulder strap and thumb loops on lower shoulder straps were all pioneered by TRS and are standard on all of their competition harnesses.
Key Features
- 6 bolt-in fixing points (7/16" UNF bolts included)
- FIA Homologation 8854/98
- SFI Homologation labelling on request
- Compatible with HANS/FHR devices, however if you intend to only use the harness with a HANS/FHR device we recommend using a 'HANS Only' version with 2" shoulder straps
- 75mm (3") shoulder straps
- 75mm (3") lap straps
- 50mm (2") crutch straps
- Securing tab for intercom cables on the shoulder strap
- Thumb loop on lower shoulder straps
- Standard colours are Red, Blue and Black. Yellow, Green, Grey/Silver, Orange, Pink and Miami Blue are special order (see dropdown above)
- Made in England
Please note that the rotary buckle is always fixed to the crutch straps as standard, in line with current FIA regulations. If you need the buckle to be attached to one of the lap straps instead then we can do this, although the harness will then be supplied with non-compliance labels i.e. it will no longer be FIA approved. Contact us if you have specific requirements.
Fixing Points
This harness is supplied with anchor plates and 7/16" UNF bolts. The anchor plates on the shoulder and lap straps have a 15mm hole. The anchor plates on the crutch straps have a 13mm hole. Top hat spacers are supplied that reduce the hole size to the correct diameter for the 7/16" bolts, and allow the anchor plates to rotate slightly when in position.
Options
- Adjuster Type - Steel as standard, or choose to upgrade to premium aluminium adjusters on the shoulders (superlite), or shoulders and laps (ultralite)
- Colour - 9 colours are available, check the images to see the different options
- Upper Shoulder Straps - Choose adjustable upper shoulder straps with either bolt down or snap in fixings, instead of being sewn to the correct length for your vehicle as recommended

- Shoulder Pads - For added comfort, shoulder pads are available in red, blue, or black
- Webbing Cutter - For use in an emergency, keeping a TRS Webbing Cutter in your vehicle can give you extra peace of mind
Pull Down or Pull Up Lap Straps?
Lap straps can be supplied with either pull down or pull up adjusters. You can make your selection using the dropdown menu above.
We normally recommend pull down adjusters that sit approximately 12cm from the buckle. We recommend these so you have easy access to the adjuster, and they will definitely be positioned within the seat.
As standard, pull up adjusters will sit approximately 12cm from the fixing point at the end of the lap strap, making them difficult to access (they will be down by the sides of the seat), however we are happy to supply them if this is your preference. If you would like pull up adjusters that are a different distance from the fixing point, please contact us. We have supplied some customers with harnesses that have pull up lap adjusters that are 22cm from the fixing point but you would need to check to see if this would be right for your vehicle and the seat you have fitted.
Adjuster Upgrades
You can upgrade the harnesses to the Superlite or Ultralite versions. As standard TRS harnesses use steel anti-creep adjusters. Also available are premium aluminium adjusters, which in addition to being lightweight, offer a smoother and faster adjustment. The Superlite harnesses use these lightweight aluminium adjusters on the shoulder straps, and the Ultralite harnesses use them on both the shoulder and lap straps.
They are highly recommended for vehicles being shared between multiple drivers, and in general we always recommend upgrading to the aluminium adjusters due to their premium look and feel.
Standard Steel Adjusters
50mm (2") steel adjusters
75mm (3") steel adjusters
Premium Alloy Adjusters
50mm (2") alloy adjusters
75mm (3") alloy adjusters
Optional Extras
TRS Shoulder Pads
TRS Webbing Cutter
With these harnesses we offer some optional extras for your comfort and safety, which you can select using the dropdown boxes above.
A pair of TRS Shoulder Pads are available in three colours: black, red, and blue. They simply attach with velcro around the shoulder strap area of the harness, for added comfort for the wearer. They will be provided in the appropriate size for the harness you choose.
Also available is a TRS Webbing Cutter, for use in case of emergencies. This is a knife for a driver, passenger or marshal to cut through harnesses and webbing in the event of an accident, to quickly release the wearer and avoid being trapped in the car. The cutter meets the MSA Blue Book requirement which states "Belt cutter(s) must be carried on board at all times", so it's a must-have when racing.
