Samco Silicone Hose Installation and Care Guide

Samco silicone hose kits and clip kits are designed for easy installation. However, if you are unsure at any stage, we strongly recommend seeking advice from a qualified mechanic.

Fuel or Oil Use

Standard SamcoSport hoses are not designed for use with fuel, oil or brake fluid. If your application involves these fluids, please use the appropriate lined hoses:

  • Fluoro-lined hoses: Suitable for low-pressure oil and oil breather applications.
  • Pro-Fuel lined hoses: Suitable for fuel and oil use — but only for non-pressurised fuel transfer or filling, not for fuel injection systems.

Safety First

Before starting work, observe the following essential safety precautions:

  • Ensure the engine is switched off and the battery is disconnected.
  • Park and secure the vehicle to prevent unexpected movement.
  • Allow the engine, coolant system and all associated pipework to fully cool — note that coolant can remain hot for several hours after the engine is turned off.

Connecting Your Hoses

  1. Drain and dispose of fluids safely: Carefully drain the old coolant and dispose of it responsibly, following local environmental regulations. Likewise, dispose of any old hoses properly.
  2. Replace hoses one at a time: When fitting a direct-replacement kit, remove the original hoses one at a time and fit the corresponding Samco hose immediately, checking that the shape and orientation match.
  3. Ensure correct alignment: The hose must sit squarely on the pipework. Do not force it on if it’s misaligned, as this can cause the end of the pipe to abrade the hose. Position the clamp at least 10mm (3/8”) back from the open end of the pipe, behind any bead or lip. Make sure the clamp sits fully on the hose, leaving at least 10mm of hose protruding past the clamp. Take care not to damage the hose lining during installation.

  4. Tighten clamps to the correct torque: Samco clamps should be tightened according to the following torque settings:
    • 12–20mm: 3 Nm (2.2 ft-lb)
    • 22–45mm: 5 Nm (3.7 ft-lb)
    • 50mm+: 6 Nm (4.4 ft-lb)
Recheck the clamps 30 minutes after fitting to account for any stress relaxation in the silicone material.
  5. Refill coolant correctly: When refilling the cooling system, follow the vehicle manufacturer’s recommended procedure. Use an ethylene-glycol based coolant. Be aware that using other coolants or additives may void your warranty.
  6. Check for leaks: After installation, inspect all connections for leaks and periodically check clamp tightness as part of your regular maintenance routine.
  7. Clean your hoses properly: Use only SamcoSport-approved cleaning products. Do not use harsh cleaners, abrasive polishes, or any petroleum-derived substances. Always observe safety precautions when cleaning.
